-Interpersonal exchanges- communicate via technology
-information collection and analysis- using info. collections
-problem solving- student oriented and co-op problem solving projects

Integration Strategies for web-based activities
- These types will address a variety of needs
- Support for student research- students often use websites and web based programs
- motivation for writing- activities might include keypals and electronic publishing
- visual learning problems and solutions
- development of collaboration skills
- Multicultural experiences- many of these projects broaden students perspectives

WEBSITE SUPPORT FOR WEB-BASED LEARNING ACTIVITIES
- function 1- project overview, announcement, and application
- function 2- Tutorial instruction- website can serve to explain  actual instruction for students to use while they are in the classroom
- function 3- information summaries and exchanges- students can add information to a collection that will be shared with others
- function 4- Communication and Support- a website can serve as a actual learning place for students to go when they need help with an activity
-function 5-  Displays a past and current student work- websites can be used as web publication centers in which students show examples
-function 6-project development centers- set up for new distance learning projects

-hundreds of these activities are available for teachers and students

RESOURCES FOR WEB PAGE AND WEBSITE DEVELOPMENT
-developing professional, personal, school and project web pages and websites
WEB PAGE AND WEBSITE AUTHORING TOOLS
- until recently, websites could not be developed without the HTML language
- however, tools such as Dreamweaver, make it possible to develop webpages without actually knowing the language exactly
-HTML- internet standard for the language used to develop websites
-JAVA- high- level programming language developed by MICROSYSTEMS.
-JAVA Applets- pre developed applications for java
-VRML- develops and displays 3-D images
-PERL-  this can be used to write Common Gateway interface
- ActionScript- provides advanced authoring environment for creating content on the web
- web development software- these tools generate HTML for the users and develop other codes so the user has an easier time doing this

DOWNLOADING IMAGES, PROGRAMS AND PLUG-INS
- several sources can be used to transfer from internet to computer
- Downloading images- images are important, and were not on the internet until Mosaic came out with the first web browser
-- these images can also be "captured", or downloaded
- Types of images are BMP,EPS,PDF,PICT,TIF,GIF, and the most common, jpeg. Images that are downloaded from the internet come in JPEG and GIF format
-DOWNLOADING PROGRAMS AND PLUG -INS
- SUBSEQUENT developments gave the web sound and motion
- special things called PLUG INS have been created to hear the multimedia stuff that otherwise would not be able to be seen
- Updated Browser versions- they update all the time, and can usually be updated on the internet
-PDF reader- this program allows us to see portable document files
-- this is particularly important because it contains both print and images
-Streaming video and audio player plug-ins- being able to see or hear action that is on the internet
- Streamed Audio and Video - sends "streams" a little at a time
-MOVIE player plug-ins- videos that have been digitized and stored as movie files may be viewed through a plug- in

FILE TRANSFER OPTIONS: EMAIL ATTACHMENTS AND FTP PROGAMS
- one way to transfer large written files is by using the FTP
-Sending files as email attachments- merely attaching these files to email messages
-Sending files via File transfer protocol- a common procedure for uploading files to servers on the internet

PROCEDURES FOR DEVLOPING AND EVALUATING WEB PAGES AND WEB SITES
-WEB DEVELOPMENT SOFTWARE- teachers find using this instead of HTML a time saver. without it, this would be time- consuming and too difficult to do for many teachers and educators
-FTP SOFTWARE- automatically upload stuff on website
-Server to house website- there are many servers to chose from in order to have a web host for the website that you have developed
